Wigan Athletic star 'can definitely go on to big things'

Wigan Athletic defender Cedric Kipre has been tipped for the very top if he continues his remarkable rate of progression.

That's the view of team-mate Nathan Byrne, his colleague on the right-hand side of the Latics backline.

Kipre, 23, has made 65 appearances in the Championship since joining from Motherwell in the summer of 2018.

Having come through the ranks at Premier League Leicester City, the Paris-born defender is making the most of his second crack at English football.

Kipre’s fine form helped Latics record four clean sheets on the bounce before the campaign was postponed at the beginning of March.

And Byrne says the sky’s the limit for a young man who’s already become one of Latics’ leaders on the field.

"A lot of people maybe forget how young Cedric actually is,” said Byrne, now one of the senior figures at the age of 27.

“He can definitely go on to big things if he keeps his head down.

“He’s got every single attribute you’d need to be a top, top centre-half.

“He’s good on the ball, he’s big, he’s strong, he’s quick, and he’s two-footed.

“There’s no reason why he can’t go very far in the game.”

Kipre has just over 12 months remaining on his contract at Wigan, with an extension high on the club’s list of priorities when things start to get back to normal.
