The Germany-born Nigeria international made a massive impact in the second half of the campaign on loan from Premier League Brighton.

He even agreed a short-term extension to cover the last six matches of the season to help the club's relegation fight.

Sadly it looks to have ended in disappointment - although the club remain hopeful of overturning a 12-point deduction which dropped them from the safety of mid-table into the bottom three.

But Balogun says he'll always look back on his time at Wigan with fondness and pride.

"I want to say thank you and goodbye to Paul Cook and his staff, the team and the whole 'Tics family," he tweeted.

"It’s been a very short and super intense time, and I’m happy to have played my part in it.

"Regardless, I will always remember this as a very special time in my career, in a very special place, with a very special club full of very special people.

"THANK YOU Wigan, I salute you.”

Balogun is now a free agent, and hinted he will make a decision on his future shortly.

"Looking forward to my next football adventure," he added. "News coming very very soon."
