Wigan Athletic starlet has unfinished business

Callum Lang has expressed his dismay at the sorry situation at Wigan Athletic - and his determination to play his part in the revival.

The 22-year-old is currently on a season-long loan in the SPL with Motherwell, although it's understood Latics have an option to bring him 'home' in January.

Incredibly, Lang is now the longest-serving player at Wigan, despite having made only five appearances for the first team.

And he's keeping his fingers crossed Latics can come through their present problems - and bring the good times back before too long.

“It’s a tough time," he acknowledged. "I’ve been at Wigan longer than anyone else there, and it’s not nice to see when a club’s struggling as they are.

“It’s wrong what’s happened. I don’t think the EFL have helped the club at all.

"It’s a great club and a real family club. You see the fans and ex-players raising so much money.

“Hopefully if I have a good season here then if I go back to Wigan I can help them push on."

Motherwell is the fourth club Lang has been loaned out to, having spent time previously with Morecambe, Oldham and Shrewsbury.

But his long-term goal remains to nail down a regular starting spot with Latics.

“I’ve been at Wigan seven years and the aim for me was to push into the first team," he told the Daily Record. "I’ve had to go out on loan and I’ve had good experience.

"I’ve only turned 22 and have had a lot of experience in football. I wouldn’t change that.

“This is a big year for me improvement wise so I just want as much game time as I can.

"The boys have made me welcome at Motherwell and I’ve enjoyed it so far.”
