Wigan Athletic starlets go fourth and conquer

Wigan Athletic’s Development Squad made it five wins in a row to move up to fourth place in the Professional Development League thanks to a 3-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at Christopher Park.

Under-18 winger Sean McGurk opened the scoring inside five minutes after the Bolton defence misjudged a long goal-kick from Bobby Jones.

Ex-Bolton midfielder Alex Perry doubled the lead after McGurk took Tylor Golden’s pass before rolling it into his team-mate’s path.

Leading goalscorer Charlie Jolley made it three shortly after the restart, with Scott Smith hitting the underside of the crossbar in the closing stages.

Latics are now 12 matches unbeaten in all competitions, heading into Friday night’s Under-23 Premier League Cup game against Sunderland.
