Wigan Athletic '˜still in total control' - Morsy

Latics slipped from first in the standings to third with title rivals Blackburn Rovers and Shrewsbury Town both winning.

But with games in hand over both – potential wins that would see them regain top spot – Morsy says Latics remain in the box seat heading into the home straight.

And there will be no hangover resulting from the loss at Fratton Park that ended a four-game win streak.

“It was a real kick in the teeth, but we go again at the weekend when we play against MK Dons,” Morsy told the Wigan Post.

“We’ll bounce back and there’ll be plenty of twists and turns to come.

“We’re still in total control of the situation, and we’ll go again like we always have.

“I actually thought we played well at Portsmouth, we created chances.

“And you’d rather lose playing like that if you have to lose a game.”

Morsy also admits the sense of injustice in the Latics dressing room after the game at Portsmouth will give them added incentive for the last eight matches.

Pompey’s opening goal came via a hotly-disputed penalty – after Latics had been denied two spot-kicks of their own.

And Morsy himself limped on to the team coach after an x-rated challenge on him that went unpunished by referee Tim Robinson.

“Some of the decisions were disgraceful,” added the Latics skipper.

“You don’t ever want to blame a referee, but it was absolutely shambolic.

“The penalty decision was a joke...I’ve got six stud marks in my quad...it’s a disgrace. There were some bad decisions out there...and big decisions cost you.

“It’s when the decisions that are missed are easy...it’s a fine line in football.”
