Wigan Athletic striker departure confirmed

The 32-year-old last month requested for his contract to be terminated, to enable him to pursue a new challenge overseas.

Following consultation between the club's administrators and the coaching staff, the request has reluctantly been accepted.

"We would like to thank Joe for his efforts during his time with Wigan Athletic," read a club statement.

Garner remains Latics' top scorer this season with seven goals in 14 appearances.

During his two-and-a-half year stint with Latics, since joining from Ipswich for £1.25million, he made 75 appearances, scoring 17 times.
