The on-loan Rotherham centre-back made his international debut for Jamaica on Thursday night.

He played the last half-hour of the 4-1 defeat to the USA in Austria, former Latics man Jamal Lowe scoring the consolation goal for the Reggae Boyz.

Despite the complicated Covid regulations regarding travel, Latics have not ruled out the chance of him being cleared to face Paul Cook’s Ipswich in a huge clash at both ends of League One.

The 29-year-old has become a key man in the Latics rearguard since arriving at the start of the season, and extended his stay in January for the rest of the campaign.

Right-back Tendayi Darikwa was also called up for international duty this week – which initially put his participation this weekend in some doubt.

But he elected not to join up with Zimbabwe for their important African Nations Cup qualifiers due to the Covid regulations.

Latics are already down to the bare bones in terms of numbers, with key men Gavin Massey and Viv Solomon-Otabor joining Kyle Joseph and Tom Pearce on the long-term absentee list.
