Wigan Athletic 'vibe is good', admits new-boy

Leon Balogun says he’s been pleasantly surprised at the team spirit he’s found at Wigan Athletic despite the club’s precarious league position.

Latics have 13 matches remaining to climb out of the Championship relegation zone, starting this weekend with the visit of Millwall.

Although Latics are three points adrift of safety, recent results – eight points collected from the last five games – have them in mid-table in the form ladder.

And Balogun – who arrived on loan from Premier League Brighton on deadline day – says the mood in the camp is in no way reflective of a team in fear of relegation.

“That was the first thing that struck me about the group to be honest – that the spirit here is so good,” he told the Wigan Post.

“The vibe I’m getting from the group is positive, everyone is very welcoming and having fun, which is always a good sign.

“I’ve been at other clubs that have been in the same situation and it hasn’t always been like this.

“Of course, it’s important we stay focused on the job in hand.

“But you also don’t lose your love for the game, and the reason we are all here.

“Obviously there’s a problem if you focus on only having fun.

“But it’s also important to strike the right balance, and enjoying the challenge as well.”
