Wigan Athletic '˜will meet Blackburn head on' - Cook

Paul Cook has promised his Wigan Athletic side will be going all-out to strike an emphatic and decisive blow to promotion rivals Blackburn in front of the watching nation at Ewood Park on Sunday.

Latics make the short trip up the M6 to take on a Rovers side that currently sit top of League One, six points ahead of Cook’s men – albeit having played FOUR games more.

Despite a draw probably not being a terrible result for the visitors, Cook says they’ll be going all-out for the win.

“I can honestly tell you we want to go there and have them a match, and we’re looking forward to it,” the Latics boss revealed.

“We won’t be going there to sit back, I can guarantee everyone that!

“I think you must focus on every game – as we did against Man City in the FA Cup – with the belief you can win every game.”

The situation at the top is further complicated by the presence of Shrewsbury in second spot, two points clear of Latics, but having played three games more.

Cook, though, is focusing all of his thoughts on Tony Mowbray’s Rovers.

“This is one of those fixtures you looked for at the start of the year,” he added.

“There’s always ones you pick out as a manager, and say: When’s that one?

“Blackburn away was one, Blackburn at home was one.

“With the Sky cameras there too, both teams having been relegated last season, there’s so much hype involved.

“I think Blackburn have done outstanding this year.

“They’re knocking out wins so repetitively. But that won’t affect our mindset.

“We’ll go there with a belief we’re going to win the game.

“That’s the way we are, that’s the way we operate.

“I’m sure Tony will be telling his players the same, and let’s see who wins on the day.”
