Wigan Athletic 'will not be wound up', pledges admin

Gerald Krasner is adamant Wigan Athletic is not on the verge of being wound-up, despite the administration process clicking on towards an eighth month.

The administrators are still seeking a new ‘Preferred Bidder’, after the Spanish investors dramatically pulled out after more than three months of exclusivity.

Krasner released a statement last week revealing there were ELEVEN parties still active in the race to buy the club, with SEVEN at an advanced stage

A further update is expected this afternoon, but Krasner called on fans to not get to downbeat about the situation.

“Unfortunately in terms of football administrations, six months is not a long time - especially with a global pandemic going on,” he said.

“We thought we had a bidder, with the Spanish bid, but at the last moment - when we were just about to get EFL approval - they decided to cut their offer by 50 per cent.

“So we had to start the process again, and we will find a bidder. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow.

“But there is enough interest that leads me to believe we will come out of this with what I said on day one...that football will be played in Wigan this season, and also next season.

“That will happen. That is my belief.”

Krasner also shot down in flames any suggestion Latics were running out of money to the extent the plug would have to be pulled at some point.

“My message to the Wigan fans is to please do as I ask - and be patient,” he added on talkSPORT.

“We are not about to wind-up this club.

“We will find a buyer, given a reasonable timescale going forward.

“There are things in the pipeline, and on Friday there will be another update in detail.”
