Things were looking bleak not too long ago for Gary Caldwell’s men but a run of seven points from a possible nine has catapulted them to 15th in the table.

They sit five points clear of Exeter City, who are fourth bottom, with four games of their season left. They also have a game in hand on the Grecians.

Goals from Callum Wright, in the first half, and a penalty after the interval from Joe Taylor ensured a 2-1 win over Mansfield Town at the Brick Community Stadium on Saturday.

It followed a successful Easter weekend when the Latics defeated Northampton Town 3-1 at the Sixfields Stadium on bank holiday Monday and drew at home with Leyton Orient on Good Friday eve.

It was the first time this season that Wigan have recorded back-to-back wins this season - a major boost for Caldwell who replaced previous boss Ryan Lowe in February.

Fox was thrilled that he and his team-mates were able to register two wins on the spin, but now he wants to extend the record to three, with a home game against Rotherham United, who look doomed to relegation, to come on Tuesday evening.

Fox said: “A lot has been said since the manager has come in, there has been an upturn in form and that’s part of the reason in why you change I suppose.

“But to be honest, it’s been a lot more organised from the boys’ side of it on the pitch, and we’re seeing the results now.

”It was valuable three points against Mansfield. I think that’s the main thing, coming out with the win.

“A lot has been made about the back-to-back wins this season, although we would’ve liked it earlier, it’s probably come at a perfect time for us.

“I think as players, and staff, and the team altogether, we’re more than aware of our position and how we’re getting on in the league.

“I know everyone else likes to mention it to us all the time and that’s your job but we’re well aware of where we are and what’s to play for, and I thought the boys were brilliant out there against Mansfield.

“ We’re not at a stage of the season where we need to look good and look pretty, it’s all about digging out results.

“I think the last game we weren’t at our best and we won, today got a little bit scrappy and we came out on top, and that’s a good sign.”

Saturday marked the return of Ryan Trevitt back into the fold after six months out.

The midfielder has not been seen since the 2-0 defeat at home to Cardiff City at the end of September due to ankle and hamstring injuries.

However, the 23-year-old came on for the final 15 minutes of the win over the Stags and Fox was pleased to see him back.

”It’s brilliant,” added Fox. “I think what’s been through this season and previously, it’s always good to get boys back around.

“He’s a good character and his quality at the start of the season was so good and hopefully he can get back to that level for us.”
