Wigan whistler handed Euro recognition

Wigan will be represented at next week's UEFA Super Cup final between Champions League winners Bayern Munich and Europa League holders Sevilla.

Paul Tierney will fulfil the role of assistant VAR official for the annual showpiece, which this year will take place in the Puskas Arena in Budapest on September 24.

Premier League referee Anthony Taylor will take charge of the fixture for the first time.

The 41-year-old has been officiating top-flight games in England since 2010 and featured in his first UEFA match in 2009.

Taylor had been listed as an additional assistant referee for the 2014 Super Cup clash in which Real Madrid beat Sevilla 2-0.

The assistant referees and VAR team for the game will also come from England, although the fourth official will be Israel's Orel Grinfeld.

Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn are the assistant referees, with Stuart Attwell the VAR.

The only non-English member of the team is fourth official: Orel Grinfeeld from Israel.
