Yanic wary of '˜ankle locator' Morsy!

The flying Dutchman joined Norwich last Tuesday in a £7million deal, just 24 hours after handing in a transfer request to force through the move.

A sizeable section of the Latics fanbase were understandably upset at seeing Wildschut moving on to pastures new, just 12 months after moving to the DW on a permanent basis from Middlesbrough.

But the player himself is more concerned with avoiding the ‘welcoming committee’ of his former team-mates out there on the pitch.

“I’m happy to be going back to Wigan because it’s a big part of my life, and I want to see everyone again,” Wildschut told the Evening Post.

“It’s going to be strange of course, but I’m looking forward to it.

“I know Wigan could use the points, but we need them as well to keep going for the play-offs.

“When I left, and I said goodbye to all the guys, I told them: ‘See you next week’.

“It’s going to be strange playing at the DW Stadium in another kit, and I expect the fans not to be very happy when they see me.

“But it will also be nice to come back and see a lot of familiar faces.

“I didn’t get chance to say goodbye to everyone, because it all happened so fast on transfer deadline day, so it’s good I’m coming back so soon.

“This is the choice I’ve made, and I have to be a man and take the consequences of that.”

As for which former team-mate he’ll be fearful of most, Wildschut replies with smile...but also a note of caution.

“I’m going to be looking out for Sam Morsy, Stephen Warnock, Max Power, and I hope I don’t come too close to them on the night!” he laughed.

“If I had to pick one, it would be Sam Morsy – the ‘Egyptian assassin’, the ‘ankle locator’!

“I really like Sam, he’s a great lad and a really good player, and it will be good to play against him also.

“It’s not always easy making and keeping friends in football, but I know I still have friends at Wigan.

“The lads I spoke to said they were happy for me and I deserved the move.

“The club was able to sign eight players on deadline day with the money they got for me, and I think it’s a squad with more than enough quality to stay up.”
