It is the latest setback for Draper, whose family hail from Wigan, with the 24-year-old having been limited by fitness issues throughout the year, missing the first three grand slam events.

The former world number four, who has now fallen to a ranking of 147, was due to play American Alex Michelsen in the first round.

A statement on X read: “Jack Draper has withdrawn from the tournament with a left arm injury. He will be replaced in the draw by lucky loser Mackenzie McDonald.”

Draper took to Instagram following his withdrawal, posting: “These last months have felt like nothing but adversity and setbacks.

“Most days I’ve spent in doubt, yet hopeful that I can keep taking positive steps forward and finding ways to progress. On days off, I reflect, and I’m only grateful for the struggle and what it’s teaching me.

“Finding acceptance and being patient with the process has been my biggest challenge, but I know I’m getting closer to where I want to be!! Very lucky to have such amazing people to help guide me through this storm, and so with that... We keep persevering. Thank you for all the support and love.”

Draper's dad, Roger, is the former Sport England, LTA and Super League chief who studied at Winstanley College. His mother, Nicky, is a former junior British tennis champion.
