Baby joy for Jenny Meadows and Trevor Painter

The 39-year-old, who retired from athletics through injury just before the 2016 Olympic Games, is due to give birth in January 2021.

“Was only looking for one recruit to join Team Meadows-Painter,” she tweeted. “Delighted to report that the position has been filled and the successful apprentice is looking to start January 2021.”

She was immediately congratulated by hundreds of well-wishers, including former Warriors star Sam Tomkins.

“Congrats to you both!” tweeted Tomkins, who now plays in France for Catalans Dragons.

“Yay! This is amazing news .... xx Congrats.. “ tweeted her former Team GB colleague Katharine Merry.

“Get ready for that 800m speed endurance training to get put to its BEST use!” tweeted fellow Olympian Jade Johnson.

“Oh, and your recovery for this session...ZERO minutes and seconds!”

The couple will not be finding out the sex of the baby until the big day.

“No reveal, we are going to wait for the surprise,” tweeted husband Trevor.
