UFC London – which was scheduled for Saturday March 21 at The O2 – was called off because of the ongoing pandemic.

It was originally set to move to America but even that left the original bill in tatters, with fights cancelled including Grundy’s featherweight showdown with Makwan Amirkhani.

And the Wiganer said: “I’m obviously gutted. A lot of hard work, dedication, sacrifices and money have gone into it to get me ready and for it to not go ahead, it’s very disappointing.

“I was raring to go. But I realise this is something which has impacted on everyone and there are people who are a lot worse off, so I can’t feel sorry for myself.

“I’ll just continue training and wait and see what happens.”

The 33-year-old echoed the sentiments of Amirkhahi’s coach, John Kavanagh, who urged the UFC to compensate fighters.

Atherton’s Tom Aspinall, who like Grundy fights out of Team Kaobon, was also on the bill.

Grundy has not fought in a year, since his victory in his UFC debut in London last March.

He was due to face Russian Movsar Evloev in China last autumn but injury ruled him out.
