It had already been reported that he is set to take on octagon veteran Nik Lentz, possibly in Las Vegas.

And the UFC has now confirmed the match-up on January 16.

They will be on the undercard of the UFC Fight Night headlining clash between featherweight champion Max Holloway and Calvin Kattar.

"Going into 2021 with a bang," posted Grundy on social media.

The 33-year-old has previously spoken of his hope of fighting again in December, having recovered from surgery on a broken jaw from his last fight.

Although he will not be fighting before Christmas, he will no doubt be satisfied to have his next fight secured.

At 36, Lentz is three years older than the Wiganer. He made his debut in the UFC in 2009 and has fought at welterweight, featherweight and lightweight. In total he has won 30 of his 44 fights - his last two have been defeats.

Grundy is now back in full training at Team Kaobon HQ in Liverpool as he eyes a comeback from his summer defeat to Movsar Evloev, on Fight Island.

Grundy broke his jaw in the opening minute of his loss to Evloev, but bravely carried on before being edged out on the judges’ scorecards.

It could have been so different if the Russian hadn’t been able to wriggle out of a choke in the first round.

A former international wrestler who won a medal at the Commonwealth Games, he won his UFC debut last year.
