For a third successive week, they limited their opponents to two tries.

Wigan cut loose in the final quarter with exciting full-back Bevan French and long-serving forward Liam Farrell both finishing with two tries to claim their second victory in three matches.

Lam said: "Our defence has been pretty good in the first three weeks.

"We're working hard on our defence and system-wise, we've got it now. I think the fan at home watches the attack and judges the team on that, but we do it the other way around. And we're really happy with that.

"My priority is defence and, as the season goes on, my philosophy is to play rugby. We haven't really seen that in the first three weeks but that's ok. That will improve as the weeks go on."

Wigan stuttered in the first-half and the score was locked heading towards the midway point of the second-half.

Lam said: "I never got nervous today, I'm just really pleased we ticked the boxes we wanted to do in attack and defence."

He praised prop Joe Bullock, who made his first appearance since suffering a knee injury last July.

"He was really good," said Lam.
