Adrian Lam hopes there is no home advantage for rivals while using 'neutral' grounds

Adrian Lam has no issues with the use of neutral grounds when Super League resumes – but hopes they’re neutral for everyone.

The RFL confirmed it is “very likely” that only a small number of venues will stage matches when the competition restarts, hopefully in mid-August.

Leeds’ Headingley and Huddersfield’s John Smith Stadium are thought to be the leading Yorkshire venues under consideration.

Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium and St Helens’ Totally Wicked Stadium are among the north west grounds being mentioned as possible hosts.

The move would reduce costs and ease the logistics of making sure the correct protocols are in place to reduce the risk of coronavirus. It would also be easier for the broadcasters.

Lam knows these are unique circumstances and is resigned to Wigan playing away from the DW Stadium, certainly until limited-crowds return, possibly in October.

But he believes the host clubs would still benefit from home advantage playing at their own ground, even without fans.

And he hopes that is factored in by the RFL and Super League bosses when they draw up the fixtures and confirm venues.

The Warriors boss said: “I don’t think it’d be fair if Leeds get to play the majority of their games at Headingley or Warrington at the Halliwell Jones. I know there will be no fans there at the games when we return.

“But it’s the familiarity of the ground and the fact there’s no travel, it’s definitely a factor and an advantage.

“I know given the choice we’d love most of our games at the DW, crowd or not.

“So I hope it’s something which a fair bit of time is dedicated to, to try and make it fair for everyone.”
