The former halfback, who has guided the Warriors to top of the Super League ladder, has a year-to-year rolling contract.

Lam was initially only supposed to be at the Wigan helm for one season in 2019 as he kept the seat warm for Shaun Edwards, but that was extended by a year when the latter U-turned on his move.

And the head coach is not pining for a return to Australia just yet.

“There’s a bright future here at Wigan and I’d like to be a part of it,” he said.

“There are exciting times ahead.

“I have an agreement with the chairman that it’s a year-to-year contract which I’m perfectly happy with.

“I’m enjoying it here, the feeling around the place has been really good.

“We’re at a really good point with the squad, the staff are a great bunch and if it all works out well, I’ll be here next year.”

Lam has had assistant roles in the NRL but never been a head coach in the competition.

“There have been a few questions through my management about my interests in that, but I’m committed to Wigan,” he said.
