Adrian Lam thrilled to finally be back at DW Stadium

Adrian Lam is hoping their long-awaited return to the DW Stadium will give them a psychological advantage as they look to book a spot in the Grand Final.

Tomorrow's showdown with Hull FC will be the first time the Warriors have played at their home venue in more than eight months – since March 8.

And though they will again be behind-closed-doors, Lam is looking forward to getting back on familiar territory.

“I think it’s got to be an advantage,” he said. “In saying that, Hull went to Warrington and had a great victory last week.

“It’d be better with the fans there but we’ve travelled since March, on a coach every week, so to come home and play at the DW, it’s our home, we’re very pleased about that – and we’ve earned the right.

“The players are looking forward to getting back there.”

Wigan had four matches at the DW before the first lockdown and Jackson Hastings, who arrived the year, joked: “I can’t even remember what it looks like!

“We wish there were fans there but we play pretty well there, it’s a big expansive pitch and a home semi is reward for being successful this year.”

Lam is expected to make two changes to the side which secured the League Leaders’ Shield in their last outing, with captain Sean O’Loughlin set to return for potentially the final game of a glittering 19-year career. Prop George Burgess would seem the most likely candidate to make way.

Hooker Sam Powell is absent from the squad, though it is unclear why, with Harry Smith primed to return.
