Josh Charnley has described his move to Sale Sharks as being like 'going to a different school' as he prepares for his rugby union debut.

Josh Charnley signed off his Wigan career with a Grand Final try

The winger – who left Wigan after last month’s Grand Final triumph – is set to face Wasps in the Anglo-Welsh Cup at the AJ Bell Stadium on Friday night.

He has spent the last week training at his new club.

He told the club’s website: “Meeting with the lads last Monday was good but different as I’ve been in the same environment for over 10 years at Wigan.

“It’s like going to a different school; you’re going into a new environment, meeting new people and learning something new.

“I wasn’t nervous on my first day, just excited really. It’s a challenge and I’m looking forward to it, I can’t wait to put on the shirt and play in front of the Sharks fans.”

Sale groundshare with Salford at the AJ Bell Stadium, where Charnley scored a hat-trick in June for the Warriors.

“I need to prove people wrong, people have already written me off, it’s one of those where I need to go out there and do what I do,” he added.
