The 27-year-old has joined the Championship club for the 2021 campaign.

Yet despite dropping down a tier, the goal-kicking centre has not given up hope of establishing himself in the Warriors side.

The Wiganer, who joined his hometown club from Swinton in 2018, said: "At this stage of my career, it's important to be playing regularly.

"For anyone to be thrown into a game, having not played for 10 weeks, it's hard to perform and your match fitness isn't the same.

"I told Wigan I needed to play and I'm grateful I've got this opportunity, I'm hoping to have a big year and see where it takes me.

"I didn't want to cut all ties, I'm still under contract and I want to show Wigan that I should be in the team."

London coach Danny Ward has assembled a strong squad for this season, including ex-Warriors prop Romain Navarrete.

And as well as hoping he can help the Broncos secure promotion, Hankinson is looking forward to the life-experience in the capital.

"The only two options I looked at were them and Toulouse, I've never lived anywhere other than Wigan so it's good to get out of my comfort zone," he said.

"My missus has come too and we've got the dog, I know it's rubbish right now with Covid and the lockdown but when we get back to some sort of normality, it'll be good to explore it here and hopefully help the club achieve what they want to achieve."
