Darrell Goulding's wife on the frontline of coronavirus battle

His wife, Coral, is a doctor working on the front line of the coronavirus pandemic at Wigan infirmary.

And Goulding, the Warriors’ reserve coach, says her work puts the lockdown – and the suspension of the season – into sharp perspective.

“I think we are all guilty of taking what we do seriously,” said the ex-centre, 32.

“But in the grand scheme, this has reminded us that it doesn’t really matter.

“We all absolutely love sport but when it comes down to it, it means nothing compared to dealing with people’s lives and their health.”

Goulding, isolating at home, has nothing but

admiration for his wife and her colleagues.

“She’s on a ward dealing with coronavirus,” he said.

“There’s obviously an element of concern for her but thankfully from the start she’s had the right protective equipment, she’s taking all the precautions she can and they’re quite well-prepared.

“It’s incredible what they’re doing, the sacrifices they’re making.

“If it means we’re sitting at home for a while, then it’s a small price to pay.”
