The Warriors players spent yesterday recovering and reviewing their bruising 22-19 loss to St Helens.

They don’t have to wait long to get back on the pitch, with Wakefield visiting on Monday as part of the congested Bank Holiday fixtures.

And the winger, who scored his side’s opening try against Saints, said: “It’s gutting when you put so much effort in and don’t get the reward.

“We really wanted the two points.

“But it was a big effort and we’ll take the positives from it. It’s a short turnaround and we’ll do the best we can to get the victory on Monday.”

Although Wigan haven’t won in four successive Super League games, Davies pointed out their encouraging performances since beating Swinton in the Challenge Cup, with a draw against Warrington and a narrow loss at St Helens.

“We keep one eye on the table, but we’re coming together as a team, we’re improving and we’ve got to keep that going,” he said.

Wigan beat Wakefield 16-10 on Easter Monday, but the Yorkshire outfit have enjoyed a bright first-half of the season to climb into the top-five.

“They’re a good team and Chris Chester is doing a great job with them,” added Davies.
