Flower: Number of errors was shocking

He believes Wigan’s backs tried to force too many plays during Thursday night’s game.

Shaun Wane’s men were ultimately grateful to a dubious late Dom Manfredi try to seal an unconvincing 20-16 win after Salford had levelled with a late charge.

And Flower said: “It was a win, we’ve got to take them but we made it really hard for ourselves.

“The errors were shocking and we need to fix that up for next week, because it’s a tough game up in Hull.

“I think we tried to play too much – we’d do all that work with the forwards and then go back to square one, doing the donkey work.

“The forwards have to make up for all the mistakes.

“We turn up every week for the backs, but we need to be better than that – and they know that as well.”

Wigan have won all three of their Super League games so far and travel to Hull FC next Friday night.

“We need a high completion-rate and at the minute it’s really low,” said Flower. “If we get it as high like we used to, we’ll have wins comfortable.”

The victory came just three days after the Welshman and his partner welcomed the arrival of their second son, Alby.

“We’re over the moon,” added the 28-year-old, who signed a new four-year deal earlier this month.

“My missus has been awesome with how she handled it.

“Daley loves him and we couldn’t be happier.”
