Hirst's naked ambition for Wigan clash

Wakefield's Keegan Hirst has good memories of his last game with Wigan '“ he avoided a '˜naked run'!

Tradition dictates that any player who doesn’t score a try during the season must later complete a nude dash of the pitch.

And prop Hirst had resigned himself for the embarrassment – when he crashed over against the Warriors in the final game of the season to seal a 32-0 mauling.

“The lads were trying their hardest to get me off the nudey run,” recalled Hirst.

“I was held up a couple of times and it was great to finally get over right at the end.

“I like to do things dramatically so scoring my first try of the season in the last minute of the last game was pretty dramatic!

“I don’t think we’re expecting a similar scoreline this weekend but you can live in hope.”

Wigan, resigned to missing out on the play-offs, were awfully flat in their last meeting as they were nilled for the first time all season.

Shaun Wane’s men have made a solid start to the new campaign, winning three of their four games – though Trinity have gone one better and completed a clean sweep so far.

“I still don’t think we’ve been particularly good in attack yet this season and that’s something we know we have to improve on at Wigan,” said Hirst.

“Hopefully we can click. But Wigan are going well - no disrespect to Huddersfield but I think Wigan will be a lot more threatening in attack.

“They have some really good playmakers and some threats out wide so I reckon we’ll have to be really good defensively to see out what they throw at us.

“It will certainly be our biggest test so far and these are the types of games we need to be winning if we want to be challenging for that top-four again.

“We definitely need to get a few of these fixtures over the line if we are to make it.

“We did at times last year and we must again this time .”
