Jarrod Sammut has promised to bring '˜a different style of rugby and attacking flair' to Wigan Warriors after becoming Adrian Lam's first signing as coach.

The 31-year-old, who recently left London Broncos after helping them win a place in Super League, has penned a two-year contract at the DW Stadium.

“It’s a massive opportunity for myself to play for one of the biggest clubs in Super League,” said Sammut.

“I’m really excited to get stuck in and play my part.

“The whole environment at the club is something that will help me progress my game even further and I hope I can bring a different style of rugby and attacking flair to the team, as I’ve been around the game for quite some time.

“I’m looking forward to putting on the cherry and white jersey.”

Sammut scored more than 550 points in 55 appearances during his two years with London, kicking both goals in the Broncos’ 4-2 win over Toronto Wolfpack in the Million Pound Game that sealed their return to the top-flight.

The Malta international, who previously played in Super League for Crusaders, Bradford and Wakefield began his career with the Penrith Panthers in the NRL where he made 38 appearances and can also cover the full-back and wing positions.

“Jarrod is player who has can produce a little bit of magic and keep defences guessing,” said new coach Lam.

“He’s a livewire type of half-back, and he’ll add to our options in the halves.

“Having spoken to him, Jarrod is hungry to show he has what it takes to produce the type of footy he is capable of on a consistent basis for a club the size of Wigan.

“I’m excited to be working with him and I’m sure all of our fans will enjoy seeing him take to the field in the cherry and white jersey.”

Executive director, Kris Radlinski added: “Adrian has been in town a couple of weeks now and has had a good look at his squad of players.

“When we heard the news about Jarrod’s release from London we acted quickly to meet him.

“It was clear he was a very motivated guy who still had a burning ambition to play at the top level.

“We believe will strengthen our group. He has Super League experience and I think Jarrod has the potential to become a player our fans will take an instant liking to.”
