Junior Nsemba: Warriors rising star earns enthusiastic praise from right-edge partner with 'scary' potential

Wigan Warriors academy product Junior Nsemba has cemented himself as one of the brightest prospects in the game and, if selected, will feature on the biggest stage this weekend in the Challenge Cup Final.

The towering teenager, still only 19-years-old, scored a memorable first senior try in last year’s sixth round victory over Leeds Rhinos in the prestigious competition, and has quickly risen to fame following impressive displays for the reigning Super League champions.

Nsemba has made just 27 appearances since making his debut back in 2022, with 11 of those coming this season in place of injured veteran Willie Isa, who suffered a devastating ankle injury earlier this season.

His performances, including three tries on the bounce starting in the Challenge Cup semi-final triumph over Hull KR in Doncaster, has seen him earn high praise from right-edge teammate Abbas Miski.

Wigan face rivals Warrington Wolves at Wembley this weekend, with back-rower Nsemba likely to start in the exciting showdown in the capital.

“It’s scary to think he’s only 19-years-old,” Lebanon international winger Miski said.

“He’s extremely good in attack; he’s a very big guy and very strong.

“I think some of the tries that we’ve seen over the weeks just show how hard he is to keep hold of.

“He’s young and he’s very eager to learn. He takes everything in, and obviously he’s got really good mentors in Liam Farrell and Willie Isa, who is working with him a lot.

“He’s in a good position and we’re glad to have him.

“He’s a humble kid. Fingers crossed he can stay injury free and keep improving.”
