Lam and Edwards set for Wigan coaching roles
They have posted a new social media tease featuring commentary of both players in action for the club (see inset).
As previously reported, Edwards is tipped for a return to the club where he cast his legacy - but only after he has finished his commitments with Wales RU after next year’s World Cup.
And that has led to the suggestion Lam could fill in on an interim basis next season - something Wigan’s Twitter post only serves to support.
Without naming them, the first part of the Tweet has commentary from Lam hitting a drop-goal in the 2002 Challenge Cup Final, while the second has audio from a player celebrating his 250th try for Wigan with a ‘nod, nod, nod’ - a trademark of Edwards, who is fourth on the club’s all-time tryscoring charts with 274.
Even the timing of the announcement, 8pm on the 8th day of August, is thought to be a nod to Edwards’ role in the club’s famous eight-year Challenge Cup run.
The Wigan Observer reported Lam was favourite to take over from Shaun Wane, at least until Edwards’ availability, nearly three weeks ago.
