The winger, who wasn't out of contract this year, has signed an extension which runs until the end of 2023, with an option to extend to 2024.

And executive director Kris Radlinski believes he can represent his country during that time, having recently been named in the England Knights squad.

Radlinski, said: “We’re very happy Liam has committed his future to the club. He is a popular player among the squad and has progressed an enormous amount in the past couple of seasons and we’re very lucky to have him as part of our organisation.

"He is not only a fantastic rugby league player, but also a wonderful character around the place. With this new contract in place he can focus on his career, pushing on to international honours, which we all believe are well within his grasp.”

Marshall has crossed for five tries in six appearances for Wigan in the 2020 Betfred Super League season.

“I feel at home here and I’ve already been lucky enough to have made plenty of memories in a Cherry and White shirt; hopefully there are many more to come," said the academy-product.

"I’m enjoying my rugby and I’m learning a lot from Adrian (Lam) and the coaching staff and I’m determined to keep on improving and build on the last few seasons.”

Marshall, son of ex-player David, made his Wigan debut against Leigh Centurions in March 2017 and has gone on to make 76 appearances for his home-town club, crossing for 62 tries.

Coach Lam said: “At 23, Liam’s best years as a player are yet to come and we’re excited for him to realise his full potential. He’s started the season extremely well, and with more hard work I don’t think he’s too far off the senior England squad. He’s a great finisher, one of the best that we have in Super League and he has improved in his all-round game in recent seasons at some rate. I’m delighted that he has agreed new terms with the club."

Meanwhile, A spokesman for Melbourne Storm denied a report in League Express linking the club to Wigan's 19-year-old prop Ethan Havard.
