Mossop '˜nowhere near' best form

The Cumbrian has figured in Wigan’s last three games, after missing out on the matches against Catalans, Huddersfield and Brisbane at the start of the year.

He will be hoping to take another step forward when the Warriors meet Widnes in an unlikely top-of-the-table contest tomorrow night.

Mossop, who last played for England in 2013, said: “I want to get back to my best, I’m nowhere near that yet. Finishing the season gave me a lot of confidence, I’ve still got a lot to work on. But I think I’m getting there.”

Mossop made a slow start last year following a shoulder problem which had cut short his sole season with NRL side Parramatta in 2014.

He has figured off the bench in the last three games and is set to continue with that role against in-form Vikings.

Denis Betts has guided his side to five wins from six matches, including last week’s thumping 46-6 destruction of Hull FC.

Mossop said: “Widnes are going to be a real test, the way they played at the weekend, they’ve got loads of confidence and they’re enjoyable to watch.

“We’re really going to be pushed, but we’re confident in our defence and if we can carry that on – and our attack can click – hopefully we can get one over them.”

Shaun Wane has named an unchanged 19-man squad for the Sky-televised game.

Nick Gregson, who made his first appearance last week, is in the panel. And prop Joe Bretherton may also make a debut, as both Liam Farrell and George Williams are doubtful.
