The No.1 is back in the country and will link-up with his teammates again on Thursday.

Lam mischievously hinted he may play against Wakefield that evening but - given he hasn't yet trained with the players - it's no surprise he isn't in the provisional 21-man squad.

Lam suggested Hastings may play at halfback and hooker during the game and if that's the case, Harry Smith may drop from the starting line-up to the bench.

That would then allow Smith to come on and play half, with starting halfback Hastings switching to hooker to give Sam Powell a rest.

With Field missing, Lam may move Jake Bibby from centre to the wing, and play either John Bateman or one of his youngsters, James O'Donnell or Sam Halsall, at centre.

Wigan's 21-man squad: Zak Hardaker, Thomas Leuluai, Brad Singleton, Sam Powell, Joe Bullock, Willie Isa, Liam Farrell, John Bateman, Oliver Partington, Morgan Smithies, Tony Clubb, Liam Byrne, Harry Smith, Ethan Havard, Jake Bibby, Mitch Clark, Joe Shorrocks, Sam Halsall, James McDonnell, Umyla Hanley, Jackson Hastings
