Places in Wigan Warriors side up for grabs, says Adrian Lam
Adrian Lam has told his fringe players there are places up for grabs in his team.
Wigan head to Salford tomorrow for their first and only pre-season friendly ahead of the new Super League campaign.
All of his fit and available senior players – including returning forward John Bateman – will figure along with youngsters from an extended bench.
And while the trial game is a good chance to blow away the cobwebs, Lam is also hoping some of his fringe players catch the eye.
He admits he is close to finalising his strongest, first-choice side for their opening Super League match against Leigh on March 26.
But he said: “I’ve got a good idea of 14 players, so there are three spots there I’m uncertain about. For any of those players on the fringes this is a great chance to put their stamp on a game and say, ‘Look at me’.
“For the senior players, this friendly is more about getting their heads around the routine of pre-match, preparation, recovery and the rest of it.
“At the other end, there are a couple of juniors who will be in there for the experience.
“But there’s also a group of players there playing for an opportunity and this is a chance for them. I’m not bothered about the result to be honest.”
Today marks 12 months since Wigan played their last game in front of fans in the UK – at Salford.
