Queensland call for...John Bateman?!

Former Wigan Warriors star John Bateman couldn't believe his eyes when he read of his call-up for Queensland ahead of this year's State of Origin.

The 26-year-old has taken the NRL by storm since joining Canberra Raiders last year.

But having been born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, he would probably have some difficulty fulfilling the qualifying criteria.

In fact, the 'call-up' was an administrative error, with Raiders team-mate Luke Bateman the one who should have been listed.

The Englishman saw the funny side, however, tweeting: "Pretty sure I was born in England,Yorkshire but I’m beginning to question that now!"
