He has a meeting planned with his provisional squad on April 6 – more than a year since taking charge.

And he will outline just what he expects from an England player, on and off the pitch.

“On the 6th we’ll meet face to face and I can get things off my chest about what we’re about, make sure they understand what a fantastic country we have, that we’ve something to be proud of, introduce the way we play, my way of behavior off the field and on the pitch when you represent England.

“The initial meeting is very important.”

Asked whether behaviour was particularly important to him, the former Wigan coach replied: “Absolutely. I want us to represent England.

“When we’re in a hotel, getting off a coach, I want people thinking good things about our England team.

“That’s very important. Nearly as important as how we play.

“I want everything to be perfect – we can’t be sloppy off the field and nail the detail on it.

“We need to represent England the best we can.”

Wane, meanwhile, says it would be pointless to rush into appointing a new captain in case the candidate suffers a dip in form before the World Cup.
