Shorrocks injury update

The livewire utility suffered a knee injury in Friday’s dramatic 28-26 win at Widnes.

But scan results have cleared him of any major damage and Wane expects him to be back in the fold within a month.

The coach said: “It’s looking like it’s not that serious, it’s looking three or four weeks.

“We’ll know more once the swelling has gone down.”

Shorrocks - who broke through into the first-team last season - was sidelined for several months following major knee surgery during his academy days.

“He’s had some bad luck over the years, but some kids have that and then play the rest of their careers with nothing,” said Wane.

“Hopefully that’s Jake because he’s a good kid, a great professional and he’ll be here a long time.”

Shorrocks, 21, is a halfback but has been used mainly as a replacement hooker in his 13 appearances so far.

Meanwhile, Wane said he will wait until later this week before finalising his team to face Leigh this Friday.

Centre Oliver Gildart is unlikely to play as he nurses a minor shoulder injury.

John Bateman missed out last week with a shoulder problem which “is nothing major”, but is still a doubt.

Liam Marshall is in the frame to make his debut.

“He has a chance and he’s very exciting player, he’s killed it in pre-season,” said Wane.

Of the long-term absentees, both Micky McIlorum and Sam Tomkins may be fit to return a little later than initially expected.

“They may be a couple of weeks over, both of them,” said Wane, pencilling in a mid-April slot.
