The Warriors have previously invited sporting greats - including Jonny Wilkinson and Sir Alex Ferguson - to speak to the players ahead of major finals.

But the visit of Liverpool great Gerrard and Manchester United icon Schmeichel was something else entirely.

They were among a group of football coaches who visited as part of UEFA coaching A licence course.

They observed training and afterwards, spoke to Wigan boss Shaun Wane and performance director Mark Bitcon.

Like Wane's next move, Gerrard has left the north west to work north of the border - he is manager at Rangers.

Ironically, Schmeichel's son Kasper, goalkeeper at Leicester City, visited the Warrington Wolves camp in the build-up to their semi-final win against St Helens.
