'Strongest side we’ve had for a long time' gives Warriors coach confidence

Adrian Lam says Wigan will have no excuses if they fail to arrest a five-match losing sequence against arch-rivals St Helens on Friday night.

Warriors haven’t had bragging rights in this fixture for more than two years, with Saints winning the latest, one-sided clash last month – admittedly against a youthful Wigan side – 42-0.

This time Lam will be fielding close to his best side, and he is expecting nothing less than their best on the field.

“It’s something we’ve talked about all week,” acknowledged Lam.

“It’s not been ideal for the length of time it’s been. But we’ve probably got the strongest side we’ve had for a long time.

“Going there to St Helens is a big challenge, but you want to play against your massive arch-rivals.

“We also need to keep our season on track. We’ve a chance of going top if we win, so it’s important to get everything right.”

Lam has made two changes to his squad, with Chris Hankinson and Liam Byrne coming in for Joe Shorrocks and the injured Dom Manfredi.
