Super League players 'should probably be more careful' to prevent Covid-19

Super League needs to get strict on players - and ban trips to the pub - to avoid further cases of Covid-19.

That's the view of Huddersfield coach Simon Woolford, who was surprised the game's chiefs have not emulated the NRL in imposing restrictions that go beyond the Government advice on social distancing.

Six Hull FC players and two coaches tested positive after the first full round of fixtures - forcing Salford to isolate and fixtures to be rejigged.

"I was surprised some stringent protocols weren’t put in place. When we got back that there were no bubbles and no strictly staying within them," he said at Huddersfield's press conference today.

"No, ‘Don’t go to pubs,’ and no, ‘Don’t go to clubs or nightclubs and don’t get in cabs,’ all these things which are pretty strict over in Australia.

“With the looseness about what players are doing away from rugby, there was always going to be an instance like the Hull FC one.

“It’s not hard to get on social media and see players from all clubs going out and about doing things they should probably be more careful with.”

He urged the RFL to 'put its foot down' to prevent further cases.
