Tomkins: We need to win more than one trophy

The full-back missed the Warriors’ Grand Final charge with a foot injury which will keep him sidelined for the opening few weeks.

He will miss out on the World Club Challenge but be back in the frame for the three-pronged domestic assault.

And he said: “We need to win more than one trophy this season.

“We’re a club that is synonymous with winning trophies and it’s important we keep that up.

“Losing that Challenge Cup semi-final to Hull FC last year was disappointing.

“We felt like they were there to be taken.

“But last year’s gone now. No other team should be worrying about the Grand Final. We’ve been there, done that and everyone’s got the rings, tattoos and whatever. We want another trophy now.”

Frenchman Morgan Escare will start the season at full-back in Tomkins’ absence.

“He’s been outstanding. I’ve watched training and he’s been one of our best trainers every day,” said the 27-year-old.

“The only thing is the language barrier but that’s not been that big of an issue, you can tell he’s got a natural rugby sense.

Tomkins admits being out for the start of the season is “not ideal”, but added: “Luckily I’m in a position where I get my fitness pretty quickly so I shouldn’t be too far behind,” he added.
