Tomkins: Wolves are hard to predict

The Warriors head to the Halliwell Jones Stadium tonight aiming to stretch their winning start to the season – which would keep the Wolves bottom of the table.

Tomkins, though, is not allowing the early results paint a false impression of the two sides’ credentials and reckons fans are in for an intense Grand Final rematch.

He said: “I love playing at Warrington, it’s a a good stadium, a good atmosphere and they’re always intense games.

“If you were to just look at Warrington’s position in the league table, it could look a ‘cert’ kind of game, but we’re prepared for a similar performance they put in against Brisbane (in the World Club Series).

“They were outstanding that day, especially in attack, and threw a lot at them. They showed what they’re capable of.”

Tomkins says it is Warrington’s variety which makes them particularly hard to contain.

“When you preview teams, most of the time you can kind of judge them, you get a read on what to expect,” said the 29-year-old.

“But with Warrington, they have so many different plays, they are an unpredictable team.

“They’re dangerous to play against and the results they’ve had probably makes then even more dangerous, because they’ll be fired up for this.”

Wigan have won all four of their games this year and, if they are triumphant tonight, it would be the first time since 1998 they have claimed five straight victories at the start of a season.

“We are happy with how we are going, there’s no danger of us getting over confident, certainly not with Waney in charge, but we’re really happy with the start,” added the forward.

“It’s the start of the race, we are notoriously slow starters so it’s a bit of a change for us, but we’re also realistic about what we’ve done.”
