Toronto Wolfpack look set to reclaim their Super League place next season - despite pulling out of this season's competition.

That is the view of Hull KR and former Leeds and Warrington coach Tony Smith, who admits he is puzzled by the move.

The Wolfpack withdrew from the top-flight on the eve of the restart.

Owner David Argyle, who bankrolled their journey to the top-flight, walked away - leaving players and staff without pay.

"We're getting ready to put a club back into the competition next year that opted out and hadn’t paid players for months and months," Smith told the Hull Daily Mail.

“We’re about to make a decision and, by all accounts, it sounds like we’re going to put them back into the competition.

“It makes you scratch your head about a whole lot of things.”

Fixtures involving Toronto which were played before the lockdown were wiped from the records and the Super League has continued as an 11-team competition.

It is understood the Wolfpack are in talks with potential buyers.
