Toronto Wolfpack prop on Wigan Warriors' radar

The Toronto prop has surfaced on their radar for 2021.

If he joined, he would be the Warriors’ second signing for next season after the capture of John Bateman from Canberra.

Singleton has spent most of his career at Leeds, where he won the Challenge Cup and two Grand Finals including the 2015 victory against Wigan. The 27-year-old Cumbrian moved to Toronto this season but his future has been thrown into doubt by the expansion club’s withdrawal from Super League.

He represented England at junior level and even captained the academy side, before representing Ireland at the 2017 World Cup.

While his Wolfpack team-mates Sonny Bill Williams and Ricky Leutele have secured moves for the rest of this season – with Sydney Roosters and Melbourne Storm respectively – it is thought the Warriors’ interest in Singleton is for next year.

He could, ironically, be a replacement for Welsh prop Ben Flower, who had agreed a move to join Toronto next season before their bombshell withdrawal.

The Wolfpack – who were only promoted to the top-flight this season – have said they intend to field a squad next season.

But even if that is the case, no decision has been made on whether they will be allowed back into next year’s Super League, or whether they will have to return in the Championship or even League One.

Last night, Super League terminated Toronto's 'Super League Participation Agreement' for the 2020 season - meaning they will now have to enter into a new Participation Agreement before being able to play in the competition in 2021.

Reports of Toronto players being owed money – and Leutele being served an eviction notice because the club stopped paying his rent – have only raised further questions about their future.

Flower and winger Joe Burgess had been informed by Wigan they would not be offered new contracts when their current deals expire at the end of this season.

As previously reported by Wigantoday, Burgess will join Salford next year.
