Wane '˜doesn't need' a new wing man

Lewis Tierney's sparkling finish to the season has all-but persuaded Shaun Wane he doesn't need additional wing cover.

Dom Manfredi’s brilliant campaign was cut short by a knee injury during the Super-8s which ruled him out for up to a year.

Wane admitted at the time he would wait until the end of the season before deciding whether to recruit an additional winger.

But he was impressed with Tierney’s form in their surge to Grand Final glory.

And the 21-year-old will be given a chance to nail down a wing role in 2017.

“I’ve been really really impressed with Lewis,” said Wane.

“I’m very comfortable going into the new year with him starting.

He was fantastic, great acceleration, great work-rate... I was really happy with the way he took his chance.”

Wane has already recruited Joe Burgess to replace Josh Charnley, and Morgan Escare on a one-year deal to cover for injured full-back Sam Tomkins.

Escare can also provide cover and competition for the wing once Tomkins returns.

Wane stopped short of ruling out signing an additional winger, simply because he takes an ‘always looking’ approach to recruitment.
