Wane reveals attacking plan

The Warriors open their Super League defence at Salford today (1.15pm).

Wane was pleased with the way his side attacked during their Grand Final surge but admits they were scratchy for too many spells beforehand.

The Warriors coach said: “I’m expecting good things, and I want us to be a lot more competitive and win games in a more convincing manner.

“I want us to be more consistent in how we do things. By the back end of last year, I was happy with how we did things, but I wasn’t in the early part – I felt if our attack had been a little better we could have scored more when we put pressure on teams.”

Morgan Escare is set to make his debut, Joe Burgess and Thomas Leuluai will mark their returns to the club and Tony Clubb and Joel Tomkins will make their comebacks from long injury lay-offs.

Wane says he will allow “a little” rustiness as they sharpen their form for next week’s World Club Challenge against Cronulla.

“We’ll never go into a game over confident, I’ve got a lot of respect for what Salford do,” he said.

Prop Lee Mossop is set for his Red Devils debut, having left Wigan at the end of last season.

“It was best for him (that he went), his game time was numbered here and he deserves to be playing and Salford gave him that opportunity,” added Wane.

“I hope he kicks on, whether he does is up to him, but he’s got some good friends here and I know the players are looking forward to playing against him.”

Wane says they have repeatedly drilled the new rule changes, including tap restarts from 40-20s and seven-tackle sets for catching balls in the ingoal.

“We’ve repped the scenarios so it’s second-nature,” said Wane.
