Wane: This is a real battle of attrition

Wigan have managed just half an hour of training this week ahead of the visit of Warrington.

Contests between these two heavyweights are often thrilling but with both sides playing their third game in eight days, Wane believes this will be a different type of contest.

He said: “We’ve had 30 minutes out on the pitch, and they’ll be the same.

“This week has all been about recovery.

“After the Easter period everyone is under the pump, everyone is busted.

“Warrington have some real attacking threats, and they might not be attacking with the same flair and speed, and neither will we.

“It’s the way it is, this will be about attrition, this is a mental game – we know what we need to do.”

Wigan and Warrington are locked at the top of the Super League table – the Cheshire outfit are in front with a better for-and-against – giving the winners the chance to move two points clear.

Wane believes the Wolves are the form side in the competition, despite their 26-24 defeat at Hull FC on Monday.

He said: “Our players won’t be taking them lightly.

“Warrington are the best in the comp’ and everyone will make them the favourites – if you look at the talent in their side, quite rightly so.”

The bookmakers have actually made Wigan the slight favourites, with the return of some injured personnel perhaps swaying them to tip the home side.

Liam Farrell is back after missing the Easter weekend and off-season recruit Willie Isa returns after six weeks out with a knee problem.

Wane added: “I think fans saw enough of Willie to know we’ve got a player.

“He’s a Wigan player, a tough individual, and he fits in well here.

“He’s picked up our detail so quickly and really fitted in.

“He’s a bit like Micky (McIlorum), in that he’s really tough, competitive and nasty on the field, but a gentleman off it.

“That’s perfect for me.”
