Wane's praise after sixth straight win

Three tries in each half secured a 30-0 win against under-strength Salford.

Wane said: “We started off a bit slow, but once we found our rhythm we were good.

“We spoke all week about our defence and it was a professional display.

“We had the odd plays which we made-up - which I need to get rid of - but apart from that I was happy.

“Salford had a dig, they defended tough, but we looked in control when they attacked and to keep a Super League team to nil is good.”

The win ensures Wigan remain two points behind leaders St Helens.

“It’s not just the wins, I like how the players are turning up to train, I like the spirit, I like how the senior players are gripping it in meetings - I’m sick of my own voice after all these years!” said Wane. “It’s a really good environment.”

Sam Tomkins scored two tries in the second-half while Oliver Gildart’s dazzling try in the 23rd minute was the fourth game in a row he has opened their scoring.

“Oli played well, he was outstanding for his first try - it was a really good turn of pace - and I was happy with him,” added Wane.

Sam Powell and Morgan Escare left the action in the second-half for concussion assessments. Wane expects them to pass the necessary tests to play in next Sunday’s Challenge Cup tie at Hull KR, in which Sean O’Loughlin and Liam Farrell will both be available to play.

Salford coach Ian Watson, missing several key players, said: “It was a really courageous effort.

“Wigan were really patient and controlled the speed of the game.

“Like St Helens last week, this is the level we need to get used to playing at.”
