Adrian Lam has a welcome headache for next week’s clash with high-flying Catalans.

“I was really happy to get the starting spot,” acknowledged Byrne. “I’ve worked hard in training and I’ve been pretty happy with how we started, and feel we dealt with Leeds well.

“You can feel the healthy competition in training. If there’s no shirt up for grabs it’d be different, but there is and everyone is pushing each other.

“I think there are eight, 10 middles, all wanting the same thing to get into the side and everyone going pretty hard.”
