Who will be Oliver Gildart's winger for start of Wigan Warriors' season?

Oliver Gildart is looking forward to striking up a new centre-wing partnership when the Super League season fires into life.

The 24-year-old has spent most of his professional career paired with Joe Burgess or Liam Marshall.

But with Burgess now at Salford and Marshall missing the start of this campaign as he recovers from knee surgery, Gildart will have someone else on the left flank.

Jake Bibby – who played on the right edge when Dom Manfredi was injured – would appear the favourite.

But Adrian Lam also has young guns Umyla Hanley and Sam Halsall as contenders.

Gildart said: “I don’t know who will get first dabs this year with Marshy out but I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s something I look forward to, working on new partnerships and hopefully we can get a good combination.”

In the last two years, Gildart has played just four games for Wigan with a winger other than Marshall or Burgess – pairing with Bibby once and Morgan Escare three times.

And his link with them trails back much further back than playing together in the Wigan first-team.

He added: “It’s weird how it worked out, I played with Budgie for my school (St Edmund Arrowsmith) and Marshy in my St Pat’s days, and both at Wigan.”
